Wellbeing in Portovenere. In Italy, March is known as “marzo pazzerello” (kind-of-crazy March), because occasional rains welcome the arrival of the sunny days and blue skies of spring. Luckily, if you are visiting the Gulf of Poets towards the end of March you don’t need to worry about the spring showers as you can enjoy some quality time indoors at Portovenere Wellness. The spa reopens on 26 March and offers you a gym, a humid area with hot tub and sauna, as well as beauty and wellness treatments.
Easter for Foodies in Portovenere. Palmaria Restaurant proposes a special menu for Easter Sunday on 1 April 2018. Executive Chef Francesco Parravicini mixes local ingredients that are typical of the maritime tradition with inland delicacies from surrounding regions. View the Easter Menu here. Music in La Spezia. Diodato “Uto” Ughi will perform in La Spezia’s Teatro Civico on 6 April 2018. The maestro and violinist will be accompanied by pianist Andrea Bacchetti in an exceptional concert to present “European Notes”, a concert featuring emblematic masterpieces by composers from seven European countries. Uto Ughi is considered one of Italy’s greatest living violinists and is also active in the promotion of classical music in today’s culture.
Geography for Children in Levanto. The second edition of “Festival delle Geografie” will take place from 6 to 8 April 2018 in the province of La Spezia, specifically in the towns of Levanto, Bonassola and Framura. It is the only festival dedicated to geography in Italy, and it is dedicated to the illustrious mapmaker Matteo Vinzoni, born and raised between Bonassola and Levanto in the XVIII century. The event includes artistic labs in which young artists sculpt materials that define a territory, such as olive tree wood, white and red marble, and slate; exhibitions of historic maps and geopolitical photographs from the Palazzo Ducale di Genova; boat and bike excursions.
Near the Gulf of Poets: Davis Cup in Genoa. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. It will take place from 6 to 8 April 2018 at Valletta Cambiato in Genoa. The last time that Liguria’s capital hosted this tournament was in 2009, when Roger Federer and his team won against Italy.
Vintage Cars in Portovenere and Lerici. Portovenere is part of an extraordinary journey along the thousand-year old roads of Matilde di Canossa, Queen of Italy in the 12th Century. On 20 April 2018, the “Terre di Canossa – International Classic Cars Challenge” will pass by Portovenere at lunch time and later in Lerici around 5:30pm.
History for Children in Portovenere. On 12 May 2018, children will have the opportunity to visit the Roman Villa of Varignano. The initiative called “Kid Pass Days” proposes a guided visit to the archeologic beauty and a didactic lab for young visitors. Dating as far back as the I century B.C., Villa Romana del Varignano was initially a rustic complex for the production of olive oil, and then turned into a residential country house until the VI century. Today it hosts an archeologic museum.
Vintage Cars in Sarzana. The prestigious Mille Miglia race for classic and vintage cars will pass by Sarzana on 18 May 2018. Enzo Ferrari defined it as “the only traveling museum in the world”. Beautiful cars from 72 different manufacturers will cross 200 art cities in 7 regions from Brescia to Rome, and back. Some VIPs will also participate in the parade, such as former Formula 1 pilot Jochen Mass and rally world champion Walter Rohrl.
