Why is the Bay of La Spezia also known as Gulf of Poets? There is no better way to find out than to get on a charming fishing boat, sail around and listen to the poems of famous writers and artists who fell in love with this area and praised it over the centuries. This exclusive experience is called “Tour of the Poets” and is provided by Grand Hotel Portovenere in collaboration with Associazione per il Mare and the duo Filippo Lubrano and Manuel Picciolo.
The tour allows you to dive into the culture and marine environment of the Gulf of Poets aboard the Moby Dick, an old restored wooden fishing boat. While you sail and admire the breath-taking scenery between Portovenere and Lerici, Filippo Lubrano and Manuel Picciolo recite poems in Italian, English and Ligurian dialect, accompanied by the guitar. Poetry and music meet with both great classics, such as Byron and Montale, and contemporary protagonists, such as Bertolani and the young local initiative “I Mitilanti”.
You can meet one of the protagonists in our interview-article called: “Modern Poets in the Golfo dei Poeti: interview with Filippo Lubrano“.
The Tour of the Poets lasts about 4 hours and is available upon request. For more information visit Experiences in the Gulf of Poets or contact Grand Hotel Portovenere: +39 0187 777751, .
