The Grand Hotel Portovenere is the reference point in the Gulf of Poet‘s luxury sector and strives to satisfy the expectations of an international clientele, making the territory even more alluring and enriching the tourism of Porto Venere, already recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the celebrated gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park.
In 2018 it became the first five-star hotel in the area of Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets. The growth achieved over the recent years results from great teamwork. “We owe a lot to our location and the town of Porto Venere, a unique place in the world for its incredible scenery, but even more credit is given to the hard work of a young team made up of more than sixty people coming mostly from this area, people who, with passion and sacrifice, were able to believe in the project and make our hotel truly Grand,” comments Director Antonio Polesel.
“We aim for continuous improvements with the right amount of ambition, and we define ourselves as a Boutique Hotel because our strength is precisely our tailor-made service within our intimate space: we are a contemporary 5-star hotel that is understated yet elegant.“
The clientele is 90% international and above all from the United States, but also includes South America, Canada, and Australia: “It must be said that the Cinque Terre have recently attracted international tourism, largely using tours ‘built ad hoc’ by travel agencies to explore Europe, and amongst the various destinations, the inclusion of the Cinque Terre and the surrounding areas such as Portovenere and the Gulf of the Poets.“
The seasonal reopening will be at the end of March 2024, but future expansion projects are already underway with investments aimed at the construction of a new building that will increase the number of guest rooms and also include a beach club that will allow guests to enjoy the destination of Portovenere to the fullest.
“Last but not least,” continues Director Antonio Polesel, “one note is the invaluable professional experience that young, local employees can build in Porto Venere and use as a springboard if their ambition will lead them to land in great hotels around the world.“
Among the commitments of the Grand Hotel Portovenere in 2024 are the various initiatives to care for the local community and the environment. Examples include:
- The Carbon Farming project, capable of generating CO2 sequestration estimated at 15 tons per year thanks to a reformed and monitored area of 10,000 m2 of olive groves and 15,000 m2 of forest.
- The redevelopment project of abandoned terraces, which in 2023 led to the planting of 30 orange trees at Wild Farm Curnigia in Corniglia;
- Excursions and events to support local associations such as Associazione per il Mare, which carries out educational and social activities in the Gulf of Poets, and Associazione Orsa Minore, committed to improving the lives of children and young people with disabilities, autism and other types of mental disorders development.
