The Gulf of Poets is home to some beautiful and innovative social responsibility projects. Grand Hotel Portovenere is one of the local businesses that embrace corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to ensure a sustainable future for the community, the environment and even its customers.
Environmental and social sustainability have always been problems that are dear to Grand Hotel Portovenere.
For example, one of the first things you notice when entering the hall of the hotel is a large art installation of colorful fish and animals. These were made by Tuscan artist Stefano Pilato using plastic and waste materials that he found on the beaches.
Grand Hotel Portovenere also collaborates with local charitable organizations such as Associazione per il Mare, which carries out activities related to the environment and aimed at improving the lives of children with disabilities, autism and other types of developmental disorders.
The hotel organizes exclusive excursions with Associazione per il Mare. Part of the proceeds from the tours is used to finance social activities in the Gulf of Poets. One notable example is the Oyster Tour in Portovenere, which takes place aboard the Moby Dick, an authentic fishing boat made out of iroko and oak wood, and built by ‘Cantieri di Siracusa’ in 1980.
In 2022, Grand Hotel Portovenere enriches the scope of its social responsibility activities by activating new collaborations with local companies that are young and environmentally friendly. Innovation and recycled plastic material will be the common thread of these new projects.
One example is the creation of small objects made by 3D printing, using completely recyclable material from natural sources (PLA).
These 3D objects will be reminiscent of Portovenere and will be entirely made in Italy by local manufacturers to minimize the environmental impact of the process.
