With a total of 1,724 reviews, of which 1,354 are “Excellent” and 313 “Very Good”, the Tripadvisor Community crowns a visit to Portovenere as the top thing to do in the Italian Riviera! [As of September 2016]
The Italian Riviera, or Ligurian Riviera (Riviera ligure) is the narrow coastal strip which lies between the Ligurian Sea and the mountain chains of the Maritime Alps and the Apennines. It extends from Ventimiglia (near the border with France to Capo Corvo in the Bay of Poets (bordering Tuscany).
The reviews are left by visitors from all over the world and in different languages. One common remark is that Portovenere surprised the visitors, who were often not too familiar with this hidden gem. Many prefer it to the renowned but overcrowded Cinque Terre.
What about the community’s top things to do once in Portovenere? Sightseeing favorites include San Pietro Church, Palmaria Island, San Lorenzo Church (also known as Sanctuary of the White Madonna), Doria Castle, followed by activities such as local shopping and going to the beach.
