Few words are needed when images say so much. Today we let you admire the photos taken by Derek Halkett on the most special day for Heather & Ed. The American couple chose to celebrate their Italian destination wedding in Portovenere, in Liguria’s Bay of Poets.
The wedding took place at the Church of St. Peter, which was consecrated in 1198 AD and is within the Doria Castle, a majestic fortification that sits above the church overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The couple and their guests stayed at Grand Hotel Portovenere, right on the seafront with panoramic views of the harbor. Here is Heather in the boutique hotel as she gets ready for the ceremony.
In his blog post, Derek writes that “The weather was fantastic and was able to capture some of the best images I have ever taken”. You can see more images of this destination wedding in Portovenere and amazing ceremonies around the world on halkettphotography.com

Honeymoon & wedding hotel in Portovenere
Grand Hotel Portovenere is a boutique hotel that has re-opened in July 2014 after careful renovation work. Set in a beautiful building that was once a historic convent, it offers a seafront location and its own private garage parking. The on-site restaurant features a panoramic terrace that is ideal for a striking reception or a romantic candlelit dinner.
For weddings, the hotel team is happy to assist in finding qualified figures such as wedding planners, photographers, florists, bakers and makeup artists; and can help in the organization of the event by creating personally tailored proposals.
For newlyweds, Grand Hotel Portovenere proposes special honeymoon packages including a stay in the Deluxe Room with enchanting views of the village and Palmaria Island; red roses, spumante and fresh fruit upon arrival in your room; a romantic candlelit dinner served on the terrace; and excursions to the Cinque Terre/Gulf of Poets in a private boat.
