A festival of sporting and cultural events will take place – by land and sea – from 9 to 17 September 2023 in various villages along the Gulf of Poets. It is called Golfo dei Poeti Cup.

Beautiful sailboats will be the great protagonists. Giorgio Balestrero, president of the local sailing association (Circoli Velici del Golfo), said:

“A 145-year-long thread links the Gulf to the Navy and the sailing world. In 1878, on the occasion of the launch of the Dandolo battleship in the presence of Queen Margherita, the first sailing event was organized in the waters of La Spezia, the first ever in Italy. The following year, the first regatta of the Reale Yacht Club Italiano was organized, establishing our bond with the world of sailing. Many regattas were organized in the Gulf of Poets up to the Mariperman Trophy, which has reached its 36th edition this year”.

The following sailing events will take place during the festival:

  • Fiorillo Trophy (Young) – 9 September 2023
  • M.O.V.M. Trophy Michele Fiorillo – 10 September 2023
  • C.S.S.N. Enti di Ricerca Trophy – 14 – 15 September 2023
  • HANSA 303 Trophy – Paralympic Sailing – 15 – 16 September 2023
  • 35th Mariperman Trophy – 16 September 2023
  • Gulf of Poets Cup – 17 September 2023

Other sports will also be involved:

  • On 16 and 17 September, canoe polo will be the protagonist with a tournament in Lerici.
  • An unprecedented 10 km national race will take place in La Spezia on 17 September: the “10 km Golfo dei Poeti Cup” aims to become an annual reference event for La Spezia athletics and a “classic” on Italy’s national calendar.
  • On 17 September, there will also be a medium-distance cycling tour that starts and ends in La Spezia, crossing the Cinque Terre, Levanto, Brugnato, and Riccò del Golfo.

Among the cultural events not to be missed:

  • Art, music and entertainment shows during the Notte Bianca (white night) on 16 September in the main squares along the Gulf of Poets.
  • It will be possible to take part in guided tours of the Naval Museum for all nine days, and on the weekend of 16 and 17, the Navy will also make Nave Italia available for visits.
  • You can admire the historic cars of the prestigious Balestrero club on the Morin Promenade (La Spezia) on the 16th afternoon and 17 September.
  • Ultralight aircraft flight is scheduled for the morning of 17 September.
