Grand Hotel Portovenere has always been at the vanguard in art promotion, especially involving its own region of Liguria and its neighbor, Tuscany. In 2020 it launched a new project called ‘Between Liguria & Tuscany’, featuring works of art exposed in the underpass that leads pedestrians towards the Grand Hotel and the historic center of Portovenere.

This initiative gives value to the tunnel through which thousands of tourists and citizens pass every year. Two art academies were invited to participate in the initiative: the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti di Genova (Liguria) and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara (Tuscany).

Artworks are created specifically for this initiative by different artists throughout the years. The common thread of this art installation is the history of the Gulf of Poets seen and interpreted by different artists and with various techniques and materials.

You can read more about the concepts and artists behind the ‘Between Liguria & Tuscany’ underpass in the articles dedicated to Elisabetta Vernetti, Davide Cedolin, Carrara Marble Art, Sabrina Davì’, and Davide Tavino.

Over time, this open-air exhibition in Portovenere will give space to other artists from the two academies. Stay tuned!
